Ferries: the Mallaig to Armadale and western isles ferries to Uig are operated by Caledonian MacBrayne. An alternative and interesting way to cross is by the shortest crossing between Skye and the mainland at Glenelg.

Buses: information about all of the buses operating to and from and within the island can be viewed on the Citylink and Stagecoach websites.

Local Car Hire firms: Kyle Taxis, S. Morrison, Jansvans, M2 Motors.

Castles and Museums: Dunvegan Castle and Gardens, Armadale Castle and Gardens, Eilean Donan.

Restaurants: Skye has some excellent restaurants including one with a Michelin star, Kinloch Lodge There are some fine seafood restaurants, in Portree, try Harbour View. Elsewhere on the island try the Three Chimneys or Lochbay.

Boat trips: Spindrift, Bella Jane, Fast-boat, Misty Isle Boat Trips.

Activities: Sconser Golf Course, Suladale Riding Centre, Walking, Whitewave.

Shops: Potteries in Uig and Edinbane, Over the Rainbow, Rag a Muffin, Skye Shrubs.
